Strengthening Agricultural Ties: Georgian Delegation Explores Collaboration with Spain's Leading Agricultural Institutions

A Georgian delegation led by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Yuri Nozadze, and the Director of the Agricultural Scientific Research Center, Levan Ujmajuridze, embarked on a working visit to Spain to enhance bilateral cooperation in the agricultural sector. The visit centered around engagements with the Spanish Research Institute of Agriculture, Food and Technology and leading companies in Spain’s agricultural industry.

Collaboration with Spain’s Premier Agricultural Research Institute

During the visit, the delegation attended a comprehensive presentation by Manuel Lainez Andrés, Director of the Spanish Research Institute of Agriculture, Food and Technology. The presentation showcased the institute’s ongoing scientific research across its centers, departments, and laboratories.

Levan Ujmajuridze emphasized the significance of this collaboration, stating:
“The Spanish Research Institute of Agriculture, Food and Technology is one of the leading institutions in the agricultural field. Our discussions with the institute’s leadership covered cooperation in crucial areas, including the protection of plant and animal genetic resources, breeding, veterinary medicine, biotechnology, and the joint study of high-risk diseases.”

Yuri Nozadze highlighted opportunities for young Georgian scientists, noting that with Spanish support, they will participate in training programs at Spain’s scientific research centers.

    • The delegation visited the pig farms, slaughterhouse, and state-of-the-art meat processing facilities of DeRaza Iberico.
    • This company is collaborating with Georgia’s Agricultural Research Center and the Partnership Fund to establish a Kakhetian pig breeding farm in Georgia.
  2. Grupo Nortenos

    • A meeting was held with Spain’s largest beef producer, which is planning to develop a beef cattle farm in Georgia.
  3. Grupo Intaco

    • The delegation explored the potential for building a modern demonstration greenhouse for vegetable crop cultivation in Tskaltubo municipality.
    • Grupo Intaco, in partnership with Georgia’s research center, aims to establish the greenhouse next year.
